Clemson recently sent out an offer to four-star defensive tackle Cam Spence.
\nTheClemsonInsider has been in touch with Mark Spence, the father of the 2017 prospect, who attends IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
\n\u201cI know the history of Clemson. They\u2019re in South Carolina, been in the ACC forever\u2026I\u2019ve been knowing about Clemson for a long time, from the basketball end, so from the football side a little bit,\u201d he said.
\nThe younger Spence transferred from Baltimore-Gilman School to the IMG Academy before the start of the current semester.
\nAt IMG, he rooms with Clemson linebacker commitment Rahshaun \u2018Shaq\u2019 Smith.
\n\u201cShaq has been raving about (Clemson), too. We\u2019re definitely interested in coming down and meeting the entire coaching staff, the defensive line coach, defensive coordinator (and) the head coach,\u201d the elder Spence said. \u201cWe\u2019re excited about it.\u201d
\nSmith isn\u2019t the only connection the Spence family has to Clemson.
\n\u201cWe actually met a wonderful couple who lives near there when we were on vacation last summer in Orlando. They\u2019re from the area,\u201d Spence said. \u201cClemson is everything to them and they\u2019re excited about us coming down and visiting the school. Their son plays for one of the local high school teams, so we look forward to coming down there.\u201d
\nAlso connected to the family is Clemson reshirt sophomore linebacker Dorian O\u2019Daniel.
\n\u201cHis high school was recruiting Camaron real heavily. Camaron almost went there, and so we spent a lot of time with Dorian O\u2019Daniel,\u201d Spence said. \u201cI\u2019ve seen pictures of him and he\u2019s turned into a grown man. I love what they\u2019ve been doing with him.
\n\u201cPhysically, he\u2019s a great athlete. He played running back in high school. To see him that big and that strong, it\u2019s truly amazing.\u201d
\nOhio State, Kentucky, Florida State, Maryland, Michigan State, N.C. State, Penn State and West Virginia have offered.
\nThe younger Spence, who\u2019s listed at 6-5, 285 pounds, comes from good stock. His mother ran track at Kentucky and his father played basketball at Wheeling Jesuit University.<\/p>\n
