{"id":1578,"date":"2015-05-31T16:14:00","date_gmt":"2015-05-31T20:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thetigerfanforum.com\/news\/?p=1578"},"modified":"2015-05-31T16:14:00","modified_gmt":"2015-05-31T20:14:00","slug":"behr-leads-clemson-in-final-round-of-ncaa-golf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thetigerfanforum.com\/news\/2015\/05\/31\/behr-leads-clemson-in-final-round-of-ncaa-golf\/","title":{"rendered":"Behr Leads Clemson in Final Round of NCAA Golf"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Bradenton<\/strong><strong>, Fla.<\/strong><strong>\u2014<\/strong>Stephen Behr shot a team best 73 on Sunday to lead Clemson during the final round of the NCAA Golf Championships at Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.\u00a0 Clemson had a 301 score as a team,\u00a0 its best of the three rounds of the tournament, but still finished 30<sup>th<\/sup> out of the 30 teams.\u00a0 The top 15 teams move on to the fourth round on Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Clemson\u2019s season ended with the completion of Sunday\u2019s round.\u00a0 The Tigers had a successful season with four first or second place tournament finishes for the first time since 2004, including a runnerup finish at the ACC Tournament when Clemson lost on the second playoff hole to Georgia Tech.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe made improvement this year,\u201d said Head Coach Larry Penley after the round on Sunday.\u00a0 \u201cBut we saw this week that the lack of experience in this tournament hurt us. \u00a0While we have been to regional tournaments each year, no one in this group had played in the national tournament and it showed.\u00a0 This is a different type of competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will miss Billy Kennerly next year.\u00a0 What a terrific senior year he had and he provided great leadership.\u00a0 He has been an outstanding representative of this program and he was a model of consistency for us.\u201d\u00a0 Kennerly led the Clemson team in stroke average at 71.53 and in top 10 finishes with seven.\u00a0 He finished in the top 10 at both the ACC Tournament and the NCAA Regional.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut we will have four starters back, plus Carson Young will be back after an injury plagued sophomore season and he was our best player at the NCAA Regional in 2014.\u00a0 So we will have five players back who have played in an NCAA Tournament. Our future is bright and this is a week we can build on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Behr was the top Tiger with his 73, his best round of the weekend and the second best score turned in by a Tiger.\u00a0 He had two birdies on the back nine (first nine of the day) and was a two under par at one point before finishing with the 73.\u00a0 The native of Florence, S.C., \u00a0finished with a 231 total for the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Clemson\u2019s best performer for the entire tournament was sophomore Austin Langdale, who had a 74 on Sunday and finished with a 223 total for the weekend, seven over par.\u00a0 \u00a0Langdale was the only Tiger to score even par on the 7,483 yard course on the weekend.\u00a0 That took place in the first round on Friday when he shot a 72.\u00a0 Langdale was Clemson\u2019s best player at the NCAA Regional and the NCAA National Tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Miller Capps and Kennerly both had scores of 77 on Sunday.\u00a0 Capps finished with a 230 total and Kennerly was at 232.\u00a0 Cody Proveaux shot a 79 on Sunday and finished at 240.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Clemson had its best nine of the weekend with a +3 score for its first nine holes on Sunday.\u00a0\u00a0 The Tigers started on the back nine and played the first four holes at two under..\u00a0 That included an even par team performance on the 608-yard par five 13<sup>th<\/sup> hole.\u00a0 Clemson\u2019s five players were a combined 11-over-par on that hole on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Behr made the turn at one-under thanks to birdies 12<sup>th<\/sup> and 14<sup>th<\/sup> holes. Sophomore Austin Langdale had an impressive nine consecutive pars and Billy Kennerly played the first nine in one over par.\u00a0 The senior made two birdies on that nine, two more than he made during a frustrating Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Clemson did not continue its consistency all week in its second nine holes each day.\u00a0 The Tigers played their first nine holes of the day at 16-over and the second nine at 36-over-par.\u00a0 The course proved to be difficult for all the schools.
