Seth Beer remains on track to follow in the footsteps of former Clemson star Kyle Parker, minus the football.
\nBeer, who could be a high-round pick in next year\u2019s Major League Baseball Draft, is scheduled to graduate from Lambert High School (Suwanee, Ga.) in December.
\nWhen the rising senior outfielder committed to Clemson last September, he was intent on starting his college baseball career in January of 2016. On Thursday night, Beer told TheClemsonInsider that his plans haven\u2019t changed, despite Jack Leggett\u2019s removal as head coach.
\n\u201cI\u2019m still loyal to Clemson as of now and I don\u2019t think that\u2019s changing it,\u201d Beer said. \u201cOne of the reasons why I loved Clemson is it\u2019s so close and the atmosphere that they have up there. As of now, I\u2019d say I\u2019m still there.\u201d
\nWord got around to to Beer (6-3, 205) during a break in the kid\u2019s camp he was working on Thursday. The news came in the form of a text message from his dad.
\n\u201cThat was, really, the first time I had any idea about it,\u201d Beer said. \u201cI wasn\u2019t watching ESPN or seeing anything on Twitter. My dad just sent me a text and told me really briefly.\u201d
\nHe picked up more of the details shortly thereafter from Leggett\u2019s former assistant, Bradley LeCroy, who was kept on board to help with the transition.
\nFor Beer, part of the attraction to Clemson was the opportunity to play for Leggett.
\n\u201cHe\u2019s a great guy and I wish him the best. I loved him,\u201d Beer said. \u201cI went up there and committed to Clemson\u2019s program with him offering me a scholarship, so, yeah, I was definitely a little disappointed in what happened.\u201d
\nJust hours removed from the change, Beer admitted that it was still \u201ctoo early\u201d to completely process the news, but he also reaffirmed his plans to start college in six months.
\n\u201cThat is the plan as of now. That\u2019s the move, that I will be enrolling in January,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m taking all of my courses that I need to, so I will be taking three classes next year, then I will be enrolling at Clemson University that January.\u201d
\nIn 52 at-bats as a junior, Beer hit .538 with six homers and 22 RBI. In 97 at-bats as a junior, he hit .536 with six homers and 39 RBI.<\/p>\n
