Clemson, S.C.\u2014Clemson graduate Stephen Behr \u00a0has been named a Capital One\u00a0 Division 1 Academic All-American as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.\u00a0 Behr was named to the Men\u2019s At-Large Third Team that includes athletes who compete golf, fencing, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo for both men and women, as well as bowling, crew and field hockey for women, and volleyball and wrestling for men..<\/p>\n

Behr graduated from Clemson in May with a 3.92 GPA, but still has another year of eligibility and plans to return to Larry Penley\u2019s golf team that reached the NCAA National Tournament this past year.\u00a0 He received his degree in financial management.<\/p>\n

The native of Florence, S.C. was one of just two ACC golfers named to one of the three teams selected.\u00a0 He was joined on the third team by Anders Albertson of Georgia Tech.\u00a0 Other Division 1 golfers named to one of the three teams were Forrest Gamble of Mississippi, Brett Patterson of Middle Tennessee State, Jordan Smith of Murray State, Matt Yelverton of Gardner-Webb, and Philip Brennan of Troy.<\/p>\n

Behr is the first Clemson golfer honored as a Capital One Academic All-American since D.J. Trahan in 2002.<\/p>\n

Behr had the finest season of his career in terms of stroke average this year with a 72.43 figure,\u00a0 third best on the Clemson team.\u00a0 The three-year starter had six rounds in the 60s, 11 rounds under par and 18 rounds at par or better.\u00a0 He finished third at the Hummingbird Invitational in the fall and was 14th<\/sup> at\u00a0 the ACC Tournament in April.<\/p>\n

Behr has been named to the Academic All-ACC Golf Team each of the last two years.\u00a0 The 2015 team will be announced later this month.<\/p>\n
