Clemson pitcher Clate Schmidt was drafted by the Boston Red Sox on day three of the 2015 MLB Draft.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Clemson pitcher Clate Schmidt was drafted on day three of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox in the 32nd round with the 951st pick overall. Just a week ago, Schmidt announced, via his twitter account, that he had been diagnosed with nodular sclerosing lymphoma and many people from around the baseball world, as well as the Clemson family reached out to him by offering prayers and encouragement to him and his family.<\/p>\n

Schmidt later announced on his twitter that, \u201cIt\u2019s something that they caught early and it\u2019s treatable with chemo and therapy. We are gonna be surrounded by the best of the best.\u201d<\/p>\n

Today, as a matter of fact, Clate Schmidt underwent his first cancer treatment in order to begin fighting off this terrible disease and there is no doubt that the junior right hander will win this battle.<\/p>\n

In his six starts this past season, The Tigers went 5-1<\/a>\u00a0 and his 52 innings of work was good enough for forth most on the team. Schmidt will be faced with the option of returning for his senior season or forgoing it and beginning his professional baseball season.<\/p>\n

Righthander who was a weekend starter most of the 2013 season and was a long reliever and weekday starter in 2014 \u2026 in 121.2 innings pitched over 36 appearances (19 starts) and two seasons, he has an 8-11 record and a 4.44 ERA while allowing 147 hits (.301 opponents\u2019 batting average), three homers and 54 walks with 78 strikeouts.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/article>\n
