Tanner Muse will enroll at Clemson later this month and begin his journey as a dual-sport athlete in Tigertown.
\nThe 6-foot-3, 205-pound prospect from Belmont, N.C. plans to split his time between the gridiron, as a safety, and the baseball diamond, as an outfielder. This Saturday, he\u2019ll graduate from South Point High School.
\n\u201cI\u2019m excited,\u201d he said, during a recent interview with TheClemsonInsider.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s nice to go through this great, little community. I\u2019m just happy to be able to get out and know what I\u2019m going to do for the next four years and enjoy it.\u201d
\nMuse, who wasn\u2019t selected in the Major League Baseball Draft, hoped to play play baseball for Jack Leggett. That\u2019s no longer in the cards since the long-time head coach was dismissed from his post at Clemson.
\n\u201cI kind of just felt like it was \u2014 I don\u2019t know, I\u2019m not a big fan of it, because I like coach Leggett. He\u2019s a great guy, great coach,\u201d Muse said. \u201cThey made the decision for a reason. I trust the athletic director and the school\u2019s reasoning, so whatever they feel is best should be the best for the school and program.\u201d
\nHowever, football will be priority No. 1 for Muse.
\n\u201cI\u2019m excited to play for the No. 1 defense \u2014 they were rated the No. 1 defensive last year. Playing under coach (Brent Venables), just trying to make an impact as early as I can,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s the main goal.\u201d
\nAs a senior, Muse had 102 total tackles (68 solo), two interceptions and a sack. He also rushed for 1,185 yards.<\/p>\n
