\t\tCHARLOTTE – Dexter Lawrence has only been Clemson once, but it was a pretty memorable trip.
\nThe five-star defensive tackle from Wake Forest, North Carolina visited as a sophomore, to see the Tigers’ 2013 season opener.
\n“The atmosphere there was crazy,” he told TheClemsonInsider on Saturday, before The Opening-Charlotte. “It was the first game (versus) Georgia and they won, so that made it even better. Just all the fans were going crazy.”
\nClemson offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell stays in fairly regular contact with Lawrence, who’s ranked by 247 as the No. 4 defensive tackle in the class of 2016.
\n“We just talk about getting me down there, being more social on social media, (replying) on (direct messages),” he said.
\nWhen they do communicate, Lawrence said Caldwell tells him, “just where they’re going to play me and things like that.”
\nThe 6-foot-5, 310-pound prospect is\u00a0 impressed with the direction Clemson is headed.
\n“It’s amazing. They’ve got a lot of No. 1′s on defense and they drafted two guys in the first-round,” he said. “And just how the program keeps going up with that defense. That’s a big thing for me, too.”
\nLawrence is considering 17 schools, including Clemson, Florida, Ole Miss, Alabama, Arkansas, Ohio State, LSU and Stanford.
\n“Probably during the season,” he said, “I’m going to narrow it down.”
\nLawrence is on track to graduate early, but his plans haven’t been finalized, so the decision could be extended to signing day if he doesn’t finish high school in December.
