Clemson Baseball: Tigers Take Game Two over Florida State

The Clemson baseball team picked up a 7-0 win over the Florida State Seminoles in Game Two of the series.  Check out how it happened here.

The Clemson Tigers beat the Florida State Seminoles Friday night to take a 2-0 series lead going into the series finale on Saturday. Zach Erwin pitched six shutout innings, striking out three batters, and allowed no runs on an efficient 73 pitches. Erwin picked up his sixth win of the season (6-4) and was key to Clemson picking up the victory.

Reed Rohlman gave Clemson its first run of the game when he belted a solo home run in the top of the second inning. It did not take the Tigers very long to extend their lead as Tyler Krieger had a two-run RBI single in the top of third to take a 3-0 lead. Just two innings later, Rohlman would come up to bat for a second time and would knock in Andrew Cox and Steven Duggar to give Clemson a five-run lead.

In the top of the seventh, Steven Duggar would give Clemson even more insurance as he blasted a solo-shot to give Clemson a 6-0 lead. The Tigers would tack on one more run in the seventh off a Florida State error, one of three committed by the Seminoles during the game, to take a seven run lead.

After that, a one hour and forty one minute rain delay followed, which led to Taylor Vetzel coming in out of the bullpen for Zach Erwin. He pitched the last three innings and picked up his fourth save of the season, allowing no runs and striking out five batters.

Rohlman led the Tigers going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Tyler Krieger also had a good night, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and Steven Duggar went 2-for-4 with home run, his fifth of the season.

With the victory, Clemson will have the chance to sweep Florida State, which could boost their RPI greatly as they keep their small hopes of making the NCAA Tournament alive. Also, with the series win, Clemson has locked up at the least the sixth seed and, possibly, the fifth seed in the ACC Tournament, starting next week.

Clemson is now 30-25 overall with a 15-13 record in conference.
