Tigers sweep FSU for first time in Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Before this week’s three-game series against Clemson, Florida State had lost just four home games all year and just two in the ACC.
But that was before the Tigers came to town. Clemson outscored the eighth-ranked Seminoles 20-7 in the three game series and swept its ACC rival for the first time in Tallahassee, Fla. The two schools first played a three-game series in Tallahassee in 1963.
Clemson got four-two out hits that drove in five runs as the Tigers took Game 3 and completed the sweep with a 9-6 victory at Dick Howser Stadium. Thanks to NC State’s loss to Louisville on Saturday, the Tigers finish as the fifth seed heading into the ACC Tournament and will play No. 4 seed FSU in he first game of the tournament.
Reed Rohlman drove in four runs on three doubles, while Tyler Krieger, Eli White, Weston Wilson, Tyler Slaton and Andrew Cox drove in runs as well.
Like in Game 2 on Friday, Rohlman got the Tigers (31-25, 16-13 ACC) rolling when he got a one-out double down the right field line in the top of the first inning. The sophomore made it 3-0 in the top of third inning when he again doubled down the right field line, this time with two outs, to score Steven Duggar and White.
In the fifth inning, Tyler Slaton doubled to left field to score Robert Jolly and then White got a two-out-hit moments later to bring Slaton home for a 5-0 lead.
After Wilson got a one-out hit in the sixth inning, Cox brought him home with an infield-hit with two outs. That gave Clemson a 6-0 lead at the time.
Florida State (37-19, 17-13 ACC) scored its first run in 21 innings against the Tigers in the bottom of the sixth inning when they loaded the bases on starter Jake Long and eventually walked in the first run. But the Seminoles got nothing after that and the Tigers added a run in the top of the seventh inning and then two more in the eighth to extend their lead to 9-1.
Rohlman and Krieger had back-to-back sac flies after Clemson loaded the bases in the eighth to score runs eight and nine in the game.
Long recorded the victory on the mound for the Tigers as he went six strong innings, allowing the one run on four hits. He owned the Seminoles through the first five innings as he limited them to three hits. But he eventually gave way to Brody Koerner in the seventh inning.
The victory on Saturday was Clemson’s seventh win in its last eight games. The Tigers will now get set for next week’s ACC Tournament. The pairings for the tournament are set to be released later on Saturday.
