TALLAHASSEE, FL — TCI takes a look back at Clemson’s (31-25, 16-13 ACC) 9-6, series-sweeping win over #8 Florida State (37-19, 17-13 ACC) on Saturday afternoon at Dick Howser Stadium.

What happened?
The Tigers struck first right off the bat as Steven Duggar drew a one-out, first inning walk, moved to second on a sac bunt, and came in to score on a RBI double down the first base line by Reed Rohlman. Clemson did not stop there as they added two runs to their lead in the third. Eli White hit a one-out single, Duggar followed with another walk, and both came in to score as Rohlman again doubled down the right field line to make the score 3-0. The Tigers took a 5-0 lead in the fourth as Robert Jolly hit a leadoff single, Tyler Slaton laced a RBI double to left center, and White singled to score Slaton. Clemson added another run in the sixth as Weston Wilson hit a one-out single and would eventually come in to score on a RBI infield single by Andrew Cox. The Seminoles would get on the scoreboard with a single run in the sixth to cut the lead to 6-1, but Clemson answered with a run in the seventh as Chris Okey hit a two-out double, moved to third on a balk, and came in to score on a Florida State throwing error. The Tigers would build their lead to 9-1 in the eighth as they loaded the bases with no outs and used back-to-back sac flies from Krieger and Rohlman to plate runs. The Seminoles would attempt a comeback in the ninth as they scored five runs with two outs, but Pat Krall got a fly ball out to end the game and complete the series sweep.

Game-Changing Moment:
With Clemson scoring in multiple innings, there could have been several game changing moments throughout the game but no innings were bigger than the seventh and eighth innings as the Tigers answered Florida State’s initial run and added what would prove to be huge insurance runs.
What went right?
Clemson starter Jake Long was solid for 6.0 innings, allowing a single run on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts. As mentioned earlier, Krall entered in the ninth and did his job to close out the game. Rohlman continued his hot week by going 3-for-4 with four RBI while White had three hits and Jolly had two hits in the offense’s 12-hit attack. Defensively, the Tigers backed up the pitching all day long as they did not commit an error in the field and turned a big double play early in the contest.
What went wrong?
Brody Koerner looked solid for his first two innings, but struggled to get the third out of the ninth as he allowed back-to-back homers that let Florida State get back in the game. In 2.2 innings, the junior allowed five runs on seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
