Details on Ogundeko arrest

Clemson defensive end Ebenezer Ogundeko was arrested and charged for Financial Transaction Card Fraud by the City of Clemson Police Department for an incident that occurred early Monday morning at two Clemson stores. Ogundeko, who has not been in any real trouble since coming to Clemson in 2013, was dismissed from the Clemson football team by head coach Dabo Swinney on Tuesday morning.
“Ebenezer Ogundeko has been dismissed from the Clemson football team for a violation of team rules and behavior detrimental to our football team,” said Swinney in a statement. “We wish him well.”
According to the arrest warrant obtained by The Clemson Insider on Tuesday afternoon, police found 28 gift cards which were purchased illegally. Police discovered the credit card in Ogundeko’s possession while they were questioning him at the Wal-Mart parking lot in Clemson.
According to the arrest warrant, Ogundeko used his own credit card, but altered the black magnetic strip on the back to another account. He was caught on camera at the Wal-Mart using the card to purchase $25 gift cards. Ogundeko, according to the warrant, confessed to police officers that he indeed alter the strips.
TCI was also told that he confessed the crime to Swinney, which led to his dismissal from the football team.
Ogundeko was accompanied by a black female friend, and said in the incident report he had done this before with the female suspect. He said in the report that he gave the female suspect his debt card and then she would put money on it.
Ogundeko said in the incident report, “he needed the money badly so he did not ask any questions.”
Marijuana was found on the female suspect and she was taken to Pickens County Detention Center. Ogundeko was questioned and advised by another officer before being taken to his residence and released.
The incident began earlier that morning when Clemson police were dispatched to the 7-11 convenience store at 1:16 a.m. at 826 Old Greenville Highway in Clemson.
The officer was told of a possible stolen credit card. Upon arrival, the officer contacted the complainant, who stated that a black female came in the store and bought a $25 visa gift card.
The complainant stated that after the female purchased the one gift card she went and grabbed three more $25 visa gift cards to purchase. The complainant stated that she thought that she was kind of strange so she asked for her identification and the female stated that it was in her car, walked outside and drove away, so she thought the card was probably stolen.
Upon doing a search at the Wal-Mart parking lot the officer noticed the car the female suspect drove off in from the 7-11, a red Toyota Prius. The female suspect was inside the car as well. After being questioned by the officer, the female told him she was waiting for her friend, Ogundeko.
Another police officer found Ogundeko and brought him to the parked car and that is when they discovered a Bank of America credit card inside the Wal-Mart bag he was holding. The police then took the card and confirmed it was the same card used at the 7-11.
Ogundeko, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., came to Clemson in 2013 and red-shirted as a freshman. He played in seven games last season for 16 total snaps from scrimmage and had five total tackles as a reserve defensive end and special teams player.
