Clemson Football Recruiting: Meet Zerrick Cooper — Andrew Boardwine, RTR

The Clemson Tiger Class of 2016 already has a total of eight commits as we hit mid-May. There are still several prospects in the nation that Coach Swinney and his staff will attempt to get pledges from in the upcoming months as they begin their senior season of football. Over the rest of May and the beginning of June, however, we are going to take a look at these eight men and what they could do when they arrive on campus next fall. Today, we will take a look at the Jonesboro, Georgia native, Zerrick Cooper.

ESPN discusses Watson’s Heisman odds — Tony Crumpton, Tigernet

Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson has 20/1 odds to win the prestigious 2015 Heisman Trophy award. It was tied for 11th best odds in the nation and ESPN called Watson’s odds a “good buy.”

“Some of the cautious handicapping is justified,” ESPN’s Travis Haney said about Watson. “When Watson was on the field, he showed as a freshman that he is as purely talented as any quarterback in the country. But staying on the field was an issue. First it was a collarbone in the spring, then a hand injury, then — the worst — a torn ACL. Watson is expected to be a go by preseason camp, but he has to shake that injury-prone tag to make 20-1 a value. He is as intriguing a choice as there is on the board, however.

No rest, but Okey isn’t weary heading into regional play — Brad Senkiw, Orange and White

Clemson catcher Chris Okey has started all 59 of the Tigers’ games behind the plate, but it’s not as if Jack Leggett doesn’t want to rest the power-hitting sophomore.

Okey doesn’t want to sit in the dugout.

“Every time I think about that and I step back on the field my adrenaline pops right back up. I feel like a little kid again,” Okey said Monday. “I’ve been enjoying it. I love being out there with the guys and winning with them. It’s been a blast.”
