Former Clemson coach delays his $100K raise for school

Former Clemson assistant Rick Stockstill is doing all he can do to help Middle Tennessee State’s football program compete with other schools financially.
Stockstill decided to delay his $100K pay raise to help cover his school’s cost of attendance scholarships and possible facilities upgrade.
Conference USA decided in February that they would allow schools to offer cost-of-attendance scholarships.
“I went to [MTSU athletics director] Chris [Massaro] at the end of the season,” Stockstill said to the Daily News Journal. “I knew financially we were going to be in a tight place with cost of attendance and everything else going on …
“I came up with this deal, and I said don’t pay me the $100,000 raise the first four years, so I’m saving $400,000 to get us through cost of attendance and to where, hopefully, we can get the facilities that we need to compete with everybody else in these next few years.”
Stockstill will now begin receiving his raise in January 2019. He has a career record of 57-55 at MTSU.
He served at Clemson from 1989 to 2002 with different roles such as the Tigers’ wide receivers coach, recruiting coordinator, quarterbacks’ coach, passing game coordinator and co-offensive coordinator.
