Clemson Football: Fast Freshmen

Check out a list of some of the fastest incoming freshmen in the nation and see where Mark Fields Jr., a Clemson commit falls on that list.

Most college football fans are counting down the days until the first 2015 kickoff and gathering information on their favorite team. The 2015 recruiting season is over, the 2016 recruiting season is under way, and other future recruits are getting looks.

The season can not get here soon enough but will be here before you know it. I thought that I would speed it up with a list of the fastest newcomers for the 2015-16 college football season.

Here are the players and their best 100 meters times:

  1. Donte Jackson ATH LSU 10.30
  2. Ronald Jones RB USC 10.37
  3. Jay Bradford RB Texas A&M 10.44

  4. Tyreik Gray RB Houston 10.46
  5. Dominic Davis RB USC 10.48
  6. Scotty Miller WR Bowling Green 10.53
  7. Kris Boyd CB Texas 10.58
  8. Torrance Gibson QB Ohio State 10.59
  9. Bryce Love RB Stanford 10.61
  10. Julius Lewis CB TCU 10.64
  • ACC notables: NC State will add a pair of speedsters in Johnny Frasier(10.7)and Nyheim Hines(10.65). Frasier was once a FSU commit but chose to stay on tobacco road. He and Hines, a scat-back, will join a strong Wolfpack running back corps.
  • Clemson’s Mark Fields, Jr(10.74) and FSU’s George Campbell(10.69)have both been clocked under 4.4 in the 40 yard dash. Fields also won the “Fastest Man” at the Opening. He will be a cornerback and Campbell a wide receiver, so ACC fans can look forward to future match ups between them.

There is always a debate on the difference in “track speed” and “field speed” and few guys have both. These guys have speed and will be worth watching when they are on the field this season. Fields, in particular, will be an interesting athlete to watch when he gets to Tigertown.

Fields should have the speed and athleticism to cover some of the top wide receivers in the nation as he continues to improve and get stronger as as an elite corner back. He is going to be able to come in and compete for a starting spot and his speed is one of the biggest assets he can offer the 2015 Clemson defense.
