The summer recruiting season is in full-swing. Unfortunately, real, live college football is still several months away.
With that in mind, TheClemsonInsider is taking a look back at the recruitment of each returning player on the Clemson roster.
WR Germone Hopper, Charlotte, N.C. – Redshirt Junior
Hopper was the first wide receiver to commit to Clemson during the Chad Morris era.
The Charlotte product was recruited to Clemson by tight ends coach Danny Pearman, but it was a sales pitch from Morris that resonated with the former four-star.
While visiting for the March 2011 junior day, Hopper sat down for 1-on-1 time with Morris, to get a look at what Clemson’s offense would look like. Morris showed Hopper clips from his one-year at Tulsa. At the center of it was wide receiver Damaris Johnson playing the 2-position.
That was the position that Morris envisioned Hopper playing at Clemson. During that sit-down, Morris also told Hopper that he was the top wide receiver target on his recruiting board.
Just a few weeks later, Hopper pulled the trigger and committed to Clemson over offers from Auburn, Virginia Tech, Tennessee and UNC.
Morris told Hopper that he would be the only wide receiver signed by Clemson in 2012. The Tigers held true to their word and Hopper rewarded them by staying firm with his pledge.
Before heading to Clemson in 2012, Hopper played in the Shrine Bowl and the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
