The 2015 Clemson football season is just a little under three months away and everything will be, from here on out, pretty quiet news-wise. We have officially hit the “barren part” of the calendar year where we all take summer vacations and enjoy barbeques, all the while waiting for the College Football season to be here. Throughout the month of June, we will be taking a look at each position and giving you a projected starter, as well as a two-deep guy and some players to watch out for this coming season. Today, we take a look at the quarterback situation.

The Clemson quarterback situation is an interesting one. There are several things to watch for this season at this spot, however. There is no question who the starter is, but the second string spot is still up for grabs and most definitely will be a hot topic when the Tigers report for Fall Camp in August. So, let’s take a look at the Clemson quarterbacks.
Projected Starter: Deshaun Watson
There is no question who the starter is. Deshaun Watson comes into this season having Tiger fans dreaming of Heisman Hopes and National Championships. Watson is, without a doubt, one of the most talented quarterbacks in the nation and the only question surrounding him is health. Can Deshaun Watson remain healthy an entire season? That is the question.
The answer remains to be seen, but if he can avoid injury this season he will have Clemson competing with the best in the nation.
Projected Second String: Nick Schuessler
As of right now, the second string spot is Nick Schuessler’s to lose. Schuessler earned it as he had an impressive spring and beat out the two Freshmen, as he should have. He looks to have improved and, with some work in the summer, he could be a solid backup should you need him at some point in the season.
More from Rubbing the Rock
I’m not sure any Tiger fan wants to see Schuessler on the field unless Clemson is holding a 20-30 point lead, but if something should happen to Watson, you hope Nick Schuessler’s improvement will be enough to help Clemson get through a tough-stretch.
Player to Watch: Kelly Bryant
Obviously, both Freshmen have a chance to take the second string spot from Nick Schuessler. Tucker Israel gives you a solid arm and a good pocket presence, but Kelly Bryant could be the next face of the Clemson program after Deshaun Watson.
He has the athletic ability and arm strength to be a dual threat at the college level. His talent level is through the roof and, with some time to learn the system, he could end up beating out Schuessler for the two-deep spot.
We are led to believe that one of these Freshmen will not red shirt, regardless. Should that person be Kelly Bryant, you can be sure he will see the field as much as possible in order to gain experience for the future.
