RTR Spotlight: Tyshon Dye

Let’s take a look at running back Tyshon Dye through the lens of the Rubbing the Rock Spotlight.

Throughout the summer, Rubbing the Rock will be taking a look at some of the players on the Clemson Tiger roster and examining their role as to how they will affect the team in this upcoming season. Clemson brings back a number of star-studded athletes and will have the chance to compete for the 2015 ACC Championship and the College Football Playoffs. The Tigers have some incredible talent and ability, with some great personalities and confidence to compete with some of the best in the nation. Today, the Rubbing the Rock Spotlight will be taking a look at Tyshon Dye.

Tyshon Dye was one of the most highly-touted running backs coming out of high school just a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, things have not gone his way as he has been injury-plagued up until late last season as he battled his way back to see limited playing time in the last three or four games of the season. He showed what he is capable of in the Georgia State game when he rushed for 124 yards on 20 carries and had two touchdowns and looked good in some of his time here at Clemson.

He is a power-runner and Clemson may rely on him as a situational runner this year. With Deshaun Watson not being able to run the ball as much, he may be relied on to pickup first downs on 3rd down and short situations. He is a north-south runner and, if healthy, could be one of those backs that could carry the ball 20-plus times in a game.

Last season, in his limited play, he ran the ball strong, but still looked a step slow in some situations, especially in the bowl game against Oklahoma where he only had 13 yards on six carries. This is, however, the first off season he has had now to just work on his game without having to rehab an injury. If he can work hard during the summer, he could be a solid two-deep back or even be counted on to carry the ball 10-20 times a game.

There is no questioning his talent and, hopefully, he can prove to be healthy this season and show Tiger fans what he is truly capable of doing, even if he will have to battle for playing time in a deep running back group.
