Clemson Sweeps #8 FSU in Tallahassee

No one saw it coming but we’ll take it!
In the final regular season series of a very disappointing 2015 season for Jack Leggett and Co. the Tigers shocked everyone and swept the eighth ranked Seminoles in Tallahassee. Along with the Gamecocks, the Seminoles have stood as a pain in the sides of the baseball team the past few years but this year bucked a recent trend from the past couple of years of falling short against the ‘Noles. With the series sweep, the Tigers finished the regular season with a record of 16-13 in ACC play and an overall record of 31-25.
The series started off on Thursday night in Tallahassee where the Tigers pitted ace Matthew Crownover against a formidable FSU lineup. Crownover gave up only one run on five hits in seven innings while leading the Tigers to a 4-1 to win series opening win over the ‘Noles. Sophomore Pat Krall pitched the last two innings of the game to pick up his third save of the year. Chris Okey and Steven Duggar each contributed with an RBI in the win.
The second game of the series featured Zack Erwin against the Seminoles. Erwin pitched six scoreless innings to earn his sixth win of the season. Taylor Vetzel took over for Erwin in the seventh and pitched three scoreless innings to finish the game. The scoring for the Tigers was led by Reed Rohlman who contributed with a solo home run and a two run single. Steven Duggar and Tyler Krieger also contributed with RBIs in a 7-0 win over the ‘Noles.
With the Tigers going for the sweep of the Seminoles, Jack Leggett and Co. featured Jake Long who pitched six innings of one run ball while allowing only four hits. Reed Rohlman concluded a monster redshirt freshman regular season by going 3-for-4 and batting in four runs. Andrew Cox, Tyler Krieger, Eli White, and Tyler Slaton also contributed with RBIs. The Tigers would go on to win 9-6 but had us holding our breath for a little bit. Brody Koerner took over for Jake Long in the seventh and allowed five runs in 2.2 innings pitched which took the score from 9-1 to 9-6. Pat Krall would took over for Koerner with two outs in the eighth and would go on to finish the game and seal the series sweep.
This sweep of the Seminoles marks the first time ever that the Tigers would sweep the Seminoles in Tallahassee. With the sweep, The Tigers will be the #5 seed in the ACC tournament next week and will face the #4 seed Seminoles in a rematch of this weekend in their first tournament game.
