For Mobile-St. Paul’s Episcopal sophomore defensive end Ryan Johnson, offer No. 5 came in when Marion Hobby stopped by the school.
The Clemson defensive ends coach was by the school last week, to check on the 6-foot-4, 235-pound prospect.
“My coach informed me about it when I just got finished working out,” Johnson said, during an interview with TheClemsonInsider. “I walked past my coach’s office and the defensive line coach from Clemson was sitting in there talking to my coach.”
Afterwards, they spoke.
“He said he’d love to have me in their system, said that I have a great feel for it,” Johnson said.
To this point, Johnson’s only been to Alabama and Auburn.
“I plan on hitting some of the camps, but I’m not sure as to where I’m going to be visiting any time soon,” he said.
Along with Clemson, Auburn, Duke, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt have offered.
“I know they’re one of the top programs in the nation,” Johnson said of Clemson. “Their defense is a force to be reckoned with and they definitely put out defensive linemen to the NFL and that their coaching staff is top tier and they have a great relationship with the players.”
