Former Clemson quarter back Cole Stoudt was released from the San Diego Chargers on Wednesday.
Former Clemson quarter back Cole Stoudt was released from the San Diego Chargers. The announcement was made early on Wednesday, sources told Tigernet. Stoudt was offered a chance from the San Diego Chargers organization just days after the draft, but the franchise chose to release him after a few weeks of rookie mini-camp.
After parting ways with Stoudt, The Chargers also signed quarter back Chase Rettig from Boston College. Rettig was a four-year starter for the Eagles and threw for 3,065 yards his Junior season. He spent last year with the Green Bay Packers organization before being waived in August.
Here is Cole Stoudt’s official Clemson bio:
Stoudt had what was possibly his best outing in his career when he led Clemson to a 40-6 victory over the number-24 ranked Oklahoma Sooners. Stoudt threw for 319 yards and three touchdown passes, as well as a rushing touchdown in his last game as a Tiger. He was named the Russell Athletic Bowl Most Valuable Player and that performance alone may be what gave him the chance at the next level.
Stoudt may get another opportunity with a different organization or he may choose to play in a “development league,” or he may choose to end his football career and begin to look for other opportunities. We wish him nothing but the best going forward and hope he succeeds in whatever he chooses.
