Wichita (Kan.) East defensive end Xavier Kelly visited Clemson Sunday.

Four-star defensive end Xavier Kelly loved his visit to Clemson.

He’s being recruited by Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables. Kelly fits the long lean build Venables and defensive line coaches Marion Hobby and Dan Brooks have targeted at weakside defensive end for the Tigers as he is much in the mold of a Vic Beasley and Richard Yeargin body type.

Kelly made the trip up after visiting Florida State. We had a chance to catch up with Kelly after his visit to gauge his feelings about the Tigers.

Clemson247: What did you do on your visit in Clemson, how did it go?

Kelly: “It was great! I toured the campus, met the coaches and learned about the football and academic programs.”

Clemson247: Do you plan on a return visit to Clemson?

Kelly: “Yes, I loved Clemson. I may be back for Dabo’s Cookout in July. I will definitely be back for a game this fall.”

Clemson247: With the visits you’ve been taking what stood out at Clemson?

Kelly: “I like how they look for character players and not just superstars.”

Clemson247: How important is early playing time for you and did you talk about that?

Kelly: “Playing time does matter to me! It’s always good to play early! They told me I have the opportunity to play early but at the end of the day it is going to depend on how hard I work! Also Coach Venables, he’s a great guy! He’s easy to talk to and knows what he’s talking about.”

Kelly is the No. 10 weakside defensive end prospect nationally in the 2016 recruiting cycle per 247Sports Composite rankings.
